It’s funny how so often I find myself searching all over the country or world for our next adventure, when we have sooooo many places to explore here in Utah. Since working with Backcountry we’ve taken the time to explore our own backyard more + man we love it! Wish we would have started sooner!

Backcountry gave us a promo code, so you could shop all our gear! Get 15% off your first purchase with code: GINGER —- exclusions apply.

Moab gets HOT in the summertime, so we love to go in the Spring or Fall. It does get busy, especially on holiday weekends so be sure to book early. Our biggest tip is to pack smart. Here’s an example, our North Face Jackets pack small, are super light and are cool enough to wear when temperatures aren’t freezing, but can be layered with a long sleeve and keep you super warm. + you can shop all our gear for 15% off with code: GINGER

HERE’S OUR FULL PACKING LIST: be sure to snag 15% off your first Backcountry purchase, with code: GINGER

  • BACKPACKS: Camel backs for hiking + something to carry the little ones in for when their legs get tired. We love our Thule pack, there’s tons of room for Jack + there’s lots of storage pockets for stashing our lunch!
  • SWIMSUITS: there isn’t really a lake in MOAB, but plenty of hikes end in water + they end up dumping water on their head most of the time. Moab get’s hooottttttt so wearing your swimsuit while hiking will help keep you cooler + pack less.
  • HIKING SHOES: We prefer to bring comfy shoes that are waterproof. The boys love these Nike Waterproof sandals and Jon + I love our Teva’s.
  • RASH GUARDS: If we’re going to be out in the sun all day, I like to boys to wear rash guards, much easier than re-applying sunscreen every couple hours.
  • SHORTS: that work for hiking or swimming. We all love the Patagonia baggies, but I also snagged this one for Jack + we’re obsessed.
  • BEACH TOWELS: I dig round towels if you can’t tell 🙂 Perfect for picnicking, drying off or hanging out on the trail. This one doubled as a tablecloth for dinner!
  • SUNGLASSES: I get a headache if I’m outside too long without my sunglasses. This is the RAEN pair I brought + Jon’s all about the extra sun coverage!
  • If you’re not staying in a van or trailer, be sure to pack a TENT that accommodates your party. We piled in the enclosed trailer on a blow up mattress.
  • HAMMOCKS: we put them up first thing under the sun shade. Spent our mid-day naps there + jack figured out how to jump off the table + swing on it.
  • YETI COOLER: we hit up Walmart just off the Spanish Fork exit before you head up the canyon. We stock up on snacks, water + simple lunch food for while we’re camping. Don’t forget the Starburst to roast over the fire.
  • SUNSCREEN + CHAPSTICK WITH SPF: When you’re camping you’re outside literally sun up to sun down, so don’t forget to protect your skin.
  • HATS: we love these SPF waterproof caps for the boys. A perfect way to stay cool + keep the sun off your face all day. I brought this one for me.
  • CAMERA: I shoot with my canon camera, but we also just snagged a GoPro for Hawaii + it’s been perfect for an adventure camera through trails + swimming holes.
  • RAIN JACKETS: this time of year is unpredictable, I brought our rain jackets + they pack super light!
  • FIREWOOD + TARP: Including matches or whatever you need to start a fire. Bring a tarp to cover your fire wood if it rains!
  • GLOW STICKS: not mandatory but the boys sure have fun playing with them when the sun goes down + it helps us keep an eye on them but be able to have adult conversations by the fire!
  • FIRST AID KIT + HAND SANITIZER: include moleskin + toe nail clippers because I swear someone jams their toe every trip. For hand sanitizer you could even bring an extra cooler with washing water!
  • BIKES: Jon forgot the boys helmets so you better believe I’m making them wear their full face motorcycle helmets all weekend! When we don’t forget them at home, the boys favorite helmets are Nutcase, they can do them up themselves.
  • TOILETRIES: #1 on mama’s checklist. Deodorant, Face Wipes, WIPES for everything messy + toothbushes!
  • CAMP CHAIRS: Easy to throw in, since they pack down so small + makes hanging out by the fire a lot more comfy!
  • TP: we had a bathroom (never before used campsite) so it was stocked but you never know + it’s better to be safe.
  • SAND TOYS: if you pack them, they’ll play them. the kids will play in the sand all day long. A major perk of being out of service + away from screens!!
  • GRANOLA BARS: easy to pack on the trail or in the car for snacks all along your adventure!
  • WATER BOTTLE: We love to bring our own water bottles so we aren’t going through 1 gazillion plastic bottles, plus it keeps it cooler in the heat of the day!
