I think loungewear just became Spring 2020’s official (unexpected) trend. I’m NOT complaining though, neutral sweat suits are my jammmmm. A new loungewear set can totally boost your mood + even increase your work-from-home productivity (I’ve tested it + it’s true). It’s like, buying a new pair of leggings to get motivated to workout!
FINDING THE PERFECT MONOCHROMATIC SET : you can usually find a set that has a top + bottom to match, buuuuut if you’re looking at individual pieces it’s hard to find the exact color – – – I actually prefer this sometimes.
My best tip is finding something of a similar hue that compliments each other. If this is hard for you to spot, then you can play it safe with a simple white or black shirt/sweatshirt/bodysuit or a matching set.
I’ve been searching my favorite sites often this last month for new loungewear arrivals + here are my go to sites for cute/socially acceptable loungewear:
I really like Aerie (which is just the comfy side of American Eagle) because they have super soft options, that are usually always on some kind of sale. I also love pairing my sweatsuits with white sneakers. Shared my favorites here.
The boys definitely need hair cuts! I’m sure many of you #boymoms can relate because short hair grows fasssst. I am excited to put all of my hair school hours to use to help you learn the ropes for cutting in your own kitchen! DOCUMENT IT. Looking back is so fun. #parrishkitchentrim.
Just remember – – – hair always grows back + we aren’t going anywhere right now anyways, so it’s okay if you mess up. Hair is forgiving!
WARNING : hair will be everywhere
You can find the video of me cutting Jonah’s hair on IGTV or sharing some tips below
Tips:
A successful home hair cut is dependent upon the BRIBE before it starts! My boys love:
Popsicles Suckers A movie or show that they haven’t seen yet
COMMIT to the hair cut + be okay with finding stray hairs that need a little trim trim over the next few days as it settles. 🙂
PRO TIP: what YOU wear matters. Throw on a tee you don’t care about + take off your bra. Only thing worse than tiny little hairs up in there is sand in your bed. (No, you can’t wash it out, however many times you try)
Take breaks after each section for both of your sanity to stay in tact.
peanut tool : will help with small detailing around the ears (optional) – you can also use your clippers without a guard on.
cape : If you don’t have a cape, drape a towel around them + fasten with a clothes pin, chip pin or hair clip. Or just do no shirt. If you’re grabbing a cape, I recommend getting a kids size – – – it will fit snug on the boys to prevent hair from going onto them + still fits Juan.
mist water bottle : LIFE CHANGING GOOD! I like to put a little drop of leave in conditioner in it if the boys hair isn’t totally clean. If you don’t have a spray bottle, just get your comb wet and then comb the top of the hair.
Comb : fine tooth + one that glides easily through hair.
Clips : to hold the top hair out of the way. Especially helpful in rigg’s euro-hawk hair.
Sharp scissors : hit up your hair dresser friend or amazon, or even find sharp fabric shears or kitchen scissors you have laying around the house.
How to Cut:
1.Use your clippers first (on dry hair). The smaller the number setting, the shorter the hair will be in the end. The longer the hair is the more forgiving it is. Number 3 is a great place to start. You can always take it shorter, you can’t glue it back on. We used a 4 on Jonah + then went to a 2.
2. Part your top hair off + use your clippers to buzz the sides + back up to the occipital bone (where the comb bends on all sides). Keep the top long, we will blend at the end!
3. For cutting the top, longer part of their hair (wet hair) – – – make your guide first + then pie part around the top of their head to cut the rest of the hair. Point cut with the tip of the scissors to have a more pieced out/texturized look (just be careful not to cut your fingers). It’s also a more forgiving way to cut than straight across.
4. My kids never sit up straight, so I have them stand up at the end to get their neckline straight. You can take the guard off or use the peanut tool to do the finishing clean up work around the ears + neckline in the end.
5. Dry hair COMPLETELY before you put on product for styling. This goes for everyday styling as well. Gel is meant to be used on dry hair not wet.
6. Spray hairspray in the direction you want the hair to stay.
7. Blow dry into place if they will let you (the style will last all day if you do). My boys like to help with this part, just don’t hold it for too long in the same place on high heat.
Be sure to check out my IGTV if any of the steps seem confusing. I will show you there exactly how to do it + tag us if you end up giving this a try, I want to see how it goes!
No matter if you have kids or not, it is hard to be stuck at home allllll day, errrrrday. I do believe this is a unique time, a sacred time with our loved ones + I’m leaning into that. We’re competitive + LOVE our game nights. It’s something to do as a family + we’ve especially been looking forward to it the last couple week + play almost nightly.
We love throwing in some of our favorite treats : popcorn, Chex mixes, milkshakes + gummy candies are all things we love.
If you have a game your family loves, please send it my way! I’ve bought every suggestion with a heartfelt review in dm’s for the last 2 years! 🙂 I take my requests v seriously
I shared a little glimpse into our night time routine a few weeks ago when I showed how I use my facial steamer. I got a flood of questions asking for more details about the nitty gritty. I thought this was a great time to share, as I think mental clarity + self care is really, realllllly important right now. Everyone stay calm, ya know?
SCHEDULE
KIDS
7:30 : turn lights down to lamps | diffusers on I am just getting more into essential oils, I love the ambiance + peace of mind they bring to our home. My go to recipe is: 4 drops Northern Lights Black Spruce + 4 drops Valor + 3 drops Tangerine
7:30 – 8:00 : kids meditation | affirmations
I need to share this disclaimer because when I first introduced the boys to guided meditation – Jon was the most suspicious. He was like what are our boys listening to?! Because up to this point, I had only been doing my own guided meditations with headphones or in a quiet room. STILLNESS is so important for kids. I really place value on this in our home. Sadie Jane has helped ground us in this process. She has done the work for all of us. The boys now ask for Sadie at night guide after they are tucked in. Headspace is another great option for kids, it’s not cheap but is an AWESOME app.
The one trait I hope to instill in my kids is gratitude. I have a few little tricks during the day to help them learn to notice the small things. (ie. highs + lows at dinner, 1 thing they love about today before they get headphones in the car) They each have one of theseOne Line a Day Journal that we fill out together. They are cute/silly + they don’t ever want the other person to hear so we do them in different parts of the house together. Jon + I trade off who does them with who.
9:15 | guided meditation + Headspacea little pricey for the membership – but I have had this for a couple of years now + I love it so much. It is broken down by category + it allow you to save them to your phone so you can still access them when you don’t have service. + The Daily Shifts is an app that I tried the 7 day trial + ended up signing up for the year. It combines my meditation/graditude process into one app.
10:00 | phone off, clean socks on phone : plug it in (not by my bed) + turned to do not disturb clean socks : stance are my fave
10:15 | gratitude journal + brain dump write down tomorrow to do’s my life coach taught me that the key to a good nights sleep is a clean mind. So every night before bed, i write down alllll of the things i need to do the next day. (even if I can’t get to it) giving it life on paper kills it from your mind + allows you to sleep deeper. next step I write down 3 things I am grateful for every single day. Have been doing this since high school. Not picky about the notebook, (I use this lined moleskin notebook with the soft cover) but I am picky + will only use these paper mate iflair pens when I write by choice. Judge away 🙂 I also love this gratitude jounral.
10:30 | netflix + chill | work on the couch with Juan some of our favorite shows rn : OZARK TIGER KING FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PARENTHOOD
12:00 – 12:30 | lights out + alarms set Jon has a hard cut off of midnight. I have to make myself too. Jon doesn’t seem to have a hard time waking up, but I would sleep until 10:30 if I could. We have been taking it day by day with all that is going on, but I normally set my alarm for 7:15.
I hope I got to all of your questions. If you have any others you’re welcome to drop it into the comments below. Stay safe, love each other + wash your hands!
I am sooo looking forward to Easter this year. With the heaviness surrounding all that’s going on in the world, Easter is a sweet reminder of what’s truly important + the joy of it is much needed right now.
Every year I look forward to putting together Easter baskets for the boys. There are just so many cute baskets, books + unique wooden toys. I love choosing thoughtful gifts tailored to each one of them.
While creating the boy’s baskets, I found so many cute ideas for what to fill them with + wanted to share with you!
quarantine tip : If you buy from Target you can choose in store pick up or drive up so you don’t have to shop around.
BASKETS:
You can get super creative with baskets, which I love! In the past, we’ve chosen bike helmetsfor the boys + they loved it. There are so many options to choose from, I suggest selecting anything that can be reused for years to come.
BOOKS:
Books are a really great option to fill your littles’ baskets with. These will be the books they remember from their childhood when they’re all grown up. Luckily, my boys love books! Here are some of our favorites that would make a sweet addition to any Easter Basket:
CANDY:
Treats are a MUST in Easter baskets + anything involving children, really. If you want to keep it on the healthier side, Annie’s brand of snacks are perfect and I’ve also been loving Smart Sweets.
Other Ideas:
Including a craft, game or special toy is another fun idea + gives your kids something fun to do (other than eat candy!).
I would love to hear your favorite Easter traditions that create special memories for you + your family. Leave a comment below!

With Easter coming up realllll soon (less than three weeks, in case your days are running together like mine), I thought this would be a perfect time to pick out an Easter dress. Easter may look a little different this year, just like a lot of things. Buuuuut, whether we head to church or not that day – I’m planning to dress up with the boys to keep it a special day.
I usually try to keep the color of my dress on the neutral side, but this bright dresscaught my eye + I couldn’t resist! I could definitely use an extra dose of sunshine right now + this dress brings it. Kept it simple with some white sandals + a pair of sunnies.
Linking all the dresses I love below in case you need some Easter Dress inspo!
Next up in #theparrishplace series, we’re talking doors! They’re probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you picture your dream home, but they’re a detail I think you should be intentional with. Luckily, there is no shortage of inspiration out there for doors. swooooooning!
Our home design is more modern + we really wanted the doors to compliment that theme. We have a few fun spaces we’re adding to our home, such as a studio + we’re thinking glass doors will be the perfect fit – what do you think?!
Building a home is not cheap + you really want to be wise with where you’re investing. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that hiring a team to help is worth every penny. We ended up saving $15,000 on just the doors alone thanks to Elizabeth Hales Design.
I’m not naturally a decision maker + if you’ve ever built a home you know there are A LOT of decisions – I mean the door choices alone – kinda-sorta-reallllly overwhelming. I’ve been so grateful for our team we have behind our build, they have each made the decision process so much easier, saved us money + listened to us every step of the way.
Are you following along on my stories for #theparrishplace updates?! Last week I shared the progress of our master bedroom! You can see our updates on our ‘home build’ highlight bubble. It’s alllll getting so real!
+ here for it, meaning I’ve boughten a fewwww too many white sneakers lately. Don’t tell Juan! My most recent favorites are these Everlane sneakers, but if I’m going for a more sporty look I’ll go with my Nike Air Force Sneakers or these Reeboks.
Rounded up a list of all my favorites rn + every pair (except for 1) is under $100!
I didn’t realize how many new hats I would be wearing with this new “season” of life. Feels like a season, even though it’s only been a week. A lot of unknowns, a lot of mood shifts + a lot of silver lining digging.
The thing I found to keep me sane is getting outdoors – whether with my family or alone. Last night me time consisted of finding a local school, running a few laps + a finishing off with a 10 minute ab workout (shared below). I instantly felt like I could happily take on a new day + had a total shift in perspectives. Isn’t it crazy how being outdoors can INSTANTLY lift your mood. If there’s one advice I have to give you during quarantine it’s :
GET MOVING + GET OUTDOORS!
thankful for Backcountry for always motivating me to get outdoors. They’re a local company, here in SLC, that i truly love so much. They always take care of you. ALWAYS! Let’s all show this local, small biz some love rn.

*I am not a certified personal trainer + this is just a workout I do at home.
I snagged this black adidas WINDBREAKER JACKET in the men’s section – size small. It’s perfect for throwing on for a run + easy to take off when you get too hot.
This TANK is the perfect length. It gives you more coverage + it even has a built in bra!
I cannot rave enough about ALO YOGA LEGGINGS. They are legit my favorite! everrrr. the color + fabric on this black pair is monnnnney + it holds you in just right!
I love wearing NIKE’s when working out, they’re the bees knees. They fit TTS + come in 7 colors.
I’m a crazy hat lady through + through, even during a workout. The dry fit on this one is perfect for workouts, or even a day on the lake.
I swapped my windbreaker to this SWEATER after my workout. It’s breathable + I sized up to a large for a oversized fit.
A sneaker change is a game changer. I don’t mind a gym look for when I’m running errands but if I need to go into the office or to a meeting I can throw on a pair of sneakers for an everyday look. These REEBOK SNEAKERS ones were super, super cute! Loved them even more in person.
I snagged a few new staple pieces a couple weeks ago + most of them are available at Nordstrom + are 25% off today. Sooo many good finds including Nike, Alo Yoga, AGOLDE, Anine Bing, Topshop, Madewell, Free People, kids toys + accessories + looooots more!
A good pair of denim is arguably the best wardrobe staple. They’re an essential piece in my #momuniform. For an easy Spring look, I love pairing my ripped denim with a tighter, long-sleeve tee like this one . . . flats + my rancher hat. I’ve been eyeing these slides for quite a while + snagged them during Shopbop spring sale a couple of weeks ago.
As the weather warms up, I’ll swap the long-sleeve for a graphic tee + conversewith the same distressed denim. This was my set up (+take down) uniform for Magnolia last week.
I loved the shade, distressing + quality on this pair from shopbop + I know it will be a staple in my closet so it was worth the splurge. But if you’re looking for a similar style for less, I snagged these from Target a few weeks ago + they were only $20! The shirt is also target, so this whole outfit is under $30! BOOM BABY!
