49 + 1 = 50

mom has been making my birthday exciting for 24 basically 25 years.
this year we got to pay her back.
she turned the big five-oohhhh.
hoooooooooty hoooooo!
what year is “over the hill” anyways? i swear we say it every 10 years.

the boys + i snuck our way up to logan wednesday night without her knowing.
with two kiddos under two, it was nothing shy of a miracle that we didn’t blow the cover.
i tell ya, the look on her face when we all jumped out from behind the counter screaming
SURPRISEEEEE was priceless. i would pay to do it again if i could.
august 20 was definitely one of my favorite days last month.
i love birthdays a lot. but i L O V E my mom even more.

mom – thank you for teaching me how to be a mother + never giving up on me.
becoming a mother has deepened our relationship more than i ever thought possible.
i hope you had as happy of a birthday as i did that day.
i love you forever + ever.

Holidays

celebrating 2 {iphone style}

the rain kind of threw off the original game plan to party at the park,
but the church gym being one of jonah’s favorite places to play – – turned out surprisingly perfect.
(minus the Y E L L O W lighting + curtain for a back drop) but who really notices, right? ha!
we wore our family baseball shirts, let j stay up until midnight + ate 4 too many donuts.
with all of our favorite people there, it was a happy day indeed!
we love you jonah jon. you fill our hearts with happiness every day of the year.

Holidays

celebrating 2

jonah’s birthday celebrations lasted for 2 days this year.
nonstop attention from his favorite people + all of his favorite things.

balloons | syrup | baseball shoes | donuts | pizza | “poppop’s” (popsicles) | baseball ouchie | swimming
big boy undies | popcorn | bike | “grandpa juice” (diet coke) | baseball | peaches | root beer floats
chuckie keeton | playing catch | the church gym | penny candy | treats | treats | treats | + more treats

j opened a few presents when he first woke up.
including his baseball shoes from grandma + grandpa.
he hasn’t let them out of his sight since.

grandma whipped us up an incredible birthday breakfast + we sang HBD 6 times.
you see those sprinkles on top of his pancakes?
those are grandma webb’s special sprinkles.
you can read about them – – – – – – here – – – – – – –

unfortunately i didn’t take too many pics on my big camera.
but i’ll get the ones from my phone here in a minute + share those with you too.

Holidays

a birthday letter

dear jonah,

it’s currently 2:49 AM on your second birthday.
you had the hardest time getting to bed tonight.
but i don’t blame you.
you know what today is.
you’re a lad from your mother’s own heart, we live for birthdays.

we added a few extra verses to your baseball song tonight.
“do you have a baseball mitt, a baseball bat.
your baseball shoes. do you have a baseball helmet + some baseball friends.”

baseball is your v e r y favorite thing. dad + i kinda hoped you’d be a basketball lover.
but the way your eyes light up when you hear “baseball”
gives derek jeter a run for his money.
you have dad’s baseball cleats waiting by the door every night he gets home from work.
you sleep with your baseball hat + talk me into a bat every time we go to the store.
you woke up wanting a glass of milk twice tonight,
but you were really scheming for a way to get to your mitt.
we love your love for baseball.

tonight as we rocked on the swing,
you put your head on my shoulder + pretended to be asleep.
i fell for it. twice.
45 minutes later you f i n a l l y fell asleep + i snuck out of your room.
grandma + i just covered your floor with yellow birthday balloons,
so when you wake up – – – you’re going to go nuts.

jonah, i am so lucky to be your mom.
you have more energy than i have in my dreams, but i love you for it.
today is going to be full of all of your favorite things.
i can’t wait to see your face when you realize all of your favorite people
are here to celebrate y o u!
you probably won’t remember it, but that makes it even better.

i love you more than you will ever know.
happy birthday my dear.

love,
mom

t u e s d a y

these snaps are from yesterday.
just a typical tuesday, but one i always want to remember.
i took the kids shopping in park city BY MYSELF + we came home in ONE piece.
(insert two flexing emojis here)
i’m sure i sound a bit ridiculous, but being a mother is what i live for.
+ i’ll totally be first to admit that this two kiddo adjustment is not exactly a walk in the park.
but i wouldn’t change it for anything. i love being a mother.
these little boys are our happiness + they make me want to be the very best mom i can be.
that being said, we celebrated our accomplishment with baseball at the park + a slurpee for dinner.

dad again

we were in the hospital with riggins for less than 24 hours.
i could not dream up a more smooth labor + delivery.
i know that it’s not quite as easy for other mom’s so i am extremely grateful!
with that said, i don’t think that dad’s get enough credit.
my jonboy – – he’s the bees knees.
he filled out every bit of paperwork, took care of the antibiotics, + any ice or spk refill needed.
he counted contractions + ran to get the nurse the second any machine started beeping.
he made sure i always had a warm blanket + told the nursing staff all of his dead baby jokes.
(not sure that’s a good thing, but their reaction was worth a million bucks)

|| i snapped these pictures about an hour after we got home from the hospital ||

j – can you believe it?
g – believe what?
j – i’m a dad again! i’m A DAD AGAIN! (insert fist pump)
g- you’re making me cry.
j – that’s not hard to do. can i be the stay-at-home-dad + you go back to work on monday for me?

he really is the bees knees, i tell you what.
this is one of those moments i will cherish forever.

saying goodbye

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.”
Arthur Rubinstein

oh, dannika.
i can’t believe the dreaded day is here.
we knew it would make it’s way up eventually, but we still kept it out of sight out of mind all summer!
she moved back up to western for another year of college hoops.
thought it might be easier to say goodbye the second time around, but i was wrong.

she absolutely glows. radiates a level of beauty + goodness that is very rare.
she loves life, loves to be happy + lives life to the fullest.
she works hard + keeps the important things in perspective, all while pushing me do the same.
i consider my sisters one of the biggest blessings in my life!
i would do anything for them + i know they’d do the same for me!

looking forward to family road trips up the the rock.
love you dan, be good, be kind, see you soon!

i snapped a few pics of cody, ash + collins the other day.
could they be more photogenic or darling? the answer is no.
i love these guys! very grateful i get to call them family.
i admire their joy for life + for each other.

Holidays

fourth grams

i believe holidays are more magical with kiddos.
our fourth was full of my favorite things – – –
my boys, my parents, eggs with bacon inside, gondola fireworks + a nice long nap.

we, (and by we i mean jonboy) has a 4th of july t-shirt tradition.
jonah is currently o b s e s s e d with motorcycles + 4wheelers.
he calls them nuu-nuun’s + talks about them all the day long.
jon scored it big this year with his a studded nuu-nuun cut-off tee.

. . . as if jonah wasn’t a daddy’s boy before . . .

here i am kicking my kankles for not snapping a decent pic of it,
because trust me, it was a hit at our ward breakfast!

this is good

last weekend went down in the parrish family history book.
jonah’s first sleepover away from home, at gamma + gampa webb’s house.
all. by. himself.

whaaaaaaaaaaaat?! trust me, i know, i still can’t believe it.

we met my mom in layton for the “handoff”.
did i cry, yes.
did i ride dirty in the middle truck seat for the rest of the night? you bet your booty i did.

i say it all the time, but i cannot remember what life was like before jonah was here.
he ring leads our adventures. our world revolves around him. he completes our little family.
so without him in the picture, we weren’t really sure what to do with ourselves.
but, we figured it out pretty quick.
we decided to mow the lawn (and break the lawn mower) picked up a crazy crusted hot-n-ready,
watched 99 iphone videos of jonah, attempted 2 large sonic milkshakes + stayed for b o t h movies at the DRIVE INN.

what a monumental day for us.
thank you mom + dad for being the bees knees + making it all possible.
