SO I’m going to give it to you straight. I don’t like laundry. Like, I’d rather have an IV put in my arm every day of the week instead. I’m guilty of putting it back through the cycle 4 times before I build up the gusto to just hurry + freakin fold it. But hey, I would still choose to fold the clean clothes over putting it all away. On the weeks I stay caught up on it all, it ain’t no thang, but when I don’t — HIDE! HURRY! HIIIIDE ME!

This Laundromat is in Logan. Around the corner from where Jon lived while he was going to USU. Which, if you remember, I moved in to the house right across the parking lot from him while he was home for Christmas Break. #stalkerstatus Anyways, I’m still trying to decide if it’s a blessing or a curse that my mom did my laundry for me my whole life. Bless her heart!!!! When I moved out on my own, I learned the real meaning of “You don’t need to put it in the hamper if it isn’t dirty.” I mean I didn’t go as far as to turning my unders inside out, but I did break my basket trying to push the clothes down to fit more on top. Which eventually overflowed to a complete mountain before I actually did it. We didn’t have a washer or dryer in our apartment, but my parents lived in the next town over + they did. The real problem is I was trying really hard to be big + independent when I moved out, so rather than going home for free help, I decided the laundromat was the better more responsible *read:stubborn* option. I loaded the back seats. Plural, yes, SEATS + went on my way. Am I painting a clear picture? I drove around the corner to the laundromat, walked in to check how much it cost + came back to the car to grab my white’s. But I couldn’t get in the car. My keys were locked in. Called my brother Cody – he didn’t answer. Called my roommates – they were in class. Grandma can’t drive, Kylee lived in St George, I had to call Jon. He answered. Of course he answered + he came to the rescue.

With his wire hanger half way wedged in the passenger window, he glanced into the back seat with his huge ol’ eyes “How did you get nominated to do all the roomies dirty duds?” ___________ awkward outburst of chuckle from my mouth (if you know me well, you know I laugh silently. When sound comes out, it’s most likely fake.) I will never forget the way he said it. He was dead serious. I didn’t correct him. In fact, I never told him it was all mine + that I hadn’t done a load of laundry since I moved out last winter.

Sami Jo Photo Sami JO Photography Gparrish

Lesson learned. That was my first + last experience with a laundromat. I took my all of my “dirty duds” back to my parent’s house for every washing after that. Hats off to anyone who travels away from home for laundry services. You are seriously the real deal!

Sami Jo Photo Sami Jo PhotoTwo kiddos, our own washer + our own dryer with a somewhat regular laundry schedule, I’d say we’ve come a long ways since my first trip to this laundromat. Felt good to redeem myself. We didn’t take any laundry with us. But it still felt good. Real, real good.

Happy Father’s Day!

bw We didn’t wake up early enough to fix up breakfast in bed like I had planned in my head for Father’s Day. But with Jon at early Church meetings, we had plenty of time to put together a few things to surprise him with when he got home. The boys sang in Sacrament meeting + it was just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Rigg held Jonah’s hand + walked right up with him to sing “I’m so glad when Daddy comes home”.

IMG_9430 copy Jonah dumped the treats out of a little box he found in the party drawer + filled it with Jon’s favorites that he found in the treat cupboard. He also brought him a football from the garage. The sweetest little gestures that made Jon smile with his eyes. My favorite, most sincere smile that comes out when the kids are involved. What a special day focused directly on him + all that he does for our family.

footballdad   Happy Father's Day I found this free Father’s Day poster download here + printed it at Staples for like 6 bucks. Easy Peasy + easily Jon’s favorite gift. We loved filling it out + reading it with him afterwards. Jonah has always overused the phrase_____ is the BEST!! So it was easy for him to think of things to fill in the blank with. I think my favorite was “My dad is the best because he likes to buy the yummy cereal, not they not yummy cereal like Mom eats.”

happiness family   Fathers Day Their little “I got a Riggy” joke didn’t ever get old. #crylaugh Rigg carried that Scheels bag around all afternoon wanting to be put inside of it.

kissy We fixed breakfast for lunch + took turns around the table sharing our favorite things about Jon + our own Father’s. I’ll be forever grateful that the boys have such incredibly strong, good-hearted role models to look up to throughout their lives. I’ve always known Jon wants 10 kids — he loves being a dad almost as much as I love watching him soak up every drop of fatherhood.

Birthday Q+A with Jonah

daddyo

On the way home from camping, I asked Jonah a few questions about Jon + took notes in my phone. Nothing formal, but we sure got a good laugh during some of his answers. It’s apparent that Jon is the favorite – – – and for good reason. Rigg repeated everything Jonah said when he realized we were laughing. They fill my life with such joy!

Jon Turns 30

jon 30 bday

I debated + debated what to do for Jon’s big 30th birthday this year. I knew he wouldn’t care for an elaborate ol’ fuss, but hello, 30 years only rolls around once. I settled for a family camping surprise party stuffed inside of a toy-hauler in the mountains instead. It hit the spot! He’s had his eyes on trailers for quite some time +  for one sliver of a second I thought I could pick one out by myself to suprise him on his big day. Joke’s on me. Once reality set it, renting was definitely the best route. Excited for him to pick out the one he wants so we can go all summer long!

We had fishing on our family bucket list last spring + went up to the fish farm in Ogden. We had such a blast, but this year, we set out to conquer the real thing. The lake just above Smith + Moorehouse helped solidify fishing as Jonah’s favorite sport. Exact words from his mouth. If we had taken enough food down to the lake to survive, I’m sure we would still be there right now. Not one of them wanted to leave.

We got home from Cali just in time to ring in Ky’s 24th year of life with a swim party. My relationship with Ky is one of my very most prized possessions. We are so similar, so different + so good at balancing each other out. We shared a room our whole lives + there aren’t too many days that go by without us hitting our text allotment on the phone plan. Watching her transform into a mother this year has been an absolute joy. Kids have always been drawn to her energetic heart + contagious laugh. ALWAYS! Watching her gracefully enter motherhood with sweet little Milo puts my love for her into a whole new category. I am so so proud of her! Can’t wait to see what things she conquers this coming year! Love you to the moon, Freddy Roo.

The California

I’m speaking at the Elevate Everyday conference on Saturday + brought the crew along with me to California. It’s been an incredible week so far. I asked instagram if anyone had any plate-licking suggestions to dine at near Huntington Beach + I am so glad I did. We are easily eating our way through “The California,” as Jonah calls it. Thank you for all of the yummy references!

Legoland giving Disneyland a run for its money. Minus the fireworks + light parade at Disney. Nothing on planet earth beats that.

Jonah hasn’t felt very well the last couple of days. You shouldn’t be allowed to get sick on vacation! Breaks my heart to see him not his normal bubbly self. Must be the lack of sleep? Excited to share more of our adventures!

Now that Dann is married + Mo is (almost) married, when the family comes to town we have to get a little creative in our sleeping situation. This is coming from the family that still sleeps in the same room on Christmas Eve. We just pile in + pretend like we aren’t crammed. Laura got married on Friday + everyone just crashed down here afterwards. There is nothing I love more than having all the family together. We missed Ky, Chad + Mi in a bad way. The older I get, the more + more I realize that family truly is EVERYTHING.

We checked “Hike Ensign Peak” off of our bucket list a couple of months ago, so we thought we would take everyone else up there with us for round two. We saw rain on the forecast Saturday, but decided to brave it anyways. The trail was muddy muddy, but it didn’t start raining until we got back down to the park. The guys golfed — the girls shopped. Weust getting warmed up for California next week!

The park just makes your everyday food taste better, ya know? Less planning, more spontaneous adventure is the lifestyle we have been implementing around here lately + things seem to be much more simple. We have dubbed Liberty Park as our favorite kid friendly park in Salt Lake City. We have clocked in many hours scootering or biking around the loop together. We always bring a few extra slices of bread to share with the ducks + Rigg’s latest thing is to growl at them after they eat it. 🙂 The ferris wheel is being revamped right now + we can’t wait for it to open. It’s on our bucket list right now! They have a concession with cotton candy, basketball courts to play horse on, a nice swimming pool for private lessons, tennis courts, sand volleyball pits, plenty of hills to roll down, lots of hungry ducks to feed, skateboarders to watch, water to splash in + enough slides to go around. Summer is oh so near!

Jonah cleans his tee ball bat every day in the bathroom sink. He keeps it in a special place during the week, but he won’t tell me where. He makes sure his hat is hung on the corner bed post + asks if it’s baseball day right when he wakes up. Tee-ball day is pretty much our favorite day of the week. This time we worried about rain all morning, but hadn’t seen any until about 5:15. With the game starting at 5:30, we were a bit heartbroken, but headed over to the field anyways. Miraculously they gave us the green light! This was his third game now + I don’t know what it is, but I still cry every game. My mom pride is through the roof when I see him run passed that home plate with that smile on his face. Or the way Riggins yells his name from the dugout? Or the way he listens to his coach + calls him “coach”. I can hardly take it. Is this how my mom felt with all of us at our games? Must be because her + Grandpa drove down just for the game!! Jonah ran off the pitchers mound in the middle of his game to ask them if they were sleeping over. His cute coach was all “Hey Jonah where are you going?!” He didn’t even blink an eye. They tied his shoes + gave him a quick love. Jonah got his little cleats from them for his 2nd birthday + they are just barely getting too small. Over the weekend we went to find him some new digs, a bag for his bat + some legit tee ball pants. Such a joy to see life through his eyes. Rigg is stoked to get his other ones. Now, how many more minutes until the next game? 🙂
