We have been doing an open a book every day in December since Jonah was a baby! It has become such a fun family Christmas book tradition! I’ve been looking super forward to this year because both Jonah + Rigg can take a turn reading! It’s such a simple, fun tradition, that we all look forward to. Reading under the Christmas tree before bed
. PLEASE NOTE: I’ve had 9 years to add books to our collection now. Don’t get overwhelmed thinking they have to be all new – or even have to be all Christmas books. Just add to your collection as you go. Hit the thrift shop or wrap books from your own book shelf. We get a couple of new ones each year + store them with our Christmas decor so they forget all about them. Be sure to add the date to the inside cover of your books if you can.
Shop some of our faves below! I also have an Amazon page with lots of kids book options if you need some more ideas!

This post is sponsored by BackcountryThere is a little pond out the passenger side window that we pass each time we visit Jon at his office. I once told Rigg it was the Great Salt Lake – I’m not sure I’ll ever live it down but that’s a story for another day. A couple of Sunday’s ago we had the first big snow storm of the year + dubbed it the perfect day to go check it out. Jack is at such a fun age + has been soooo curious about water freezing, where snowmen go, what happens to the ducks, if fish get cold, etc. We made the drive to see if we could figure it out! 🙂

We’ve loved our Thule carrier for a few years + the boys have learned that we are bound to be going on an adventure when they see this being loaded into the car. I’ve said this before + I truly believe it – when you invest in good quality winter items – you should be able to hand then down to your next baby. This is the story in our home at-least! Good winter jackets, beanies the whole family wears + snow boots too. Backcountry is a great place to purchase these investment pieces. Now is a great time to invest in the bigger ticket items. Heading into Q4 I know how busy times are about to get in my life. Walmart+ could not have launched at a more convenient time for a Mom on the go! I’ll be the first to admit – – – planning ahead is not my forte. Without Walmart+ Halloween prep would still be an item on my to do list!! After I signed up for the 15 day free trial I went to Walmart to pick up Halloween supplies using my membership’s mobile scan & go benefit. I was able to grab table coverings, treat bags for the upcoming class parties, pumpkins, carving tools, a ladle, and a few other Halloween goodies. Using mobile scan & go was such a time saver while shopping in store! Plus, since I live life in my minivan, the fact that this membership offers member prices on fuel (depending on location) is huge!
After our risk free 15 day free trial we were sold on the membership!! You’re gonna love this membership! After the free trial the membership is either $12.95/month of $98/year.
Here are some of the benefits you can enjoy with the Walmart+ membership:
– Free unlimited deliveries including grocery, home decor, clothing, electronics, etc. (orders $35+, restrictions apply) CHECK HERE to see if your location is available for this benefit!
– 5¢ off on fuel at Walmart and Murphy gas stations with the member prices on fuel benefit!!
– Access to mobile scan & go (which allows you to scan items as you shop and use Walmart Pay for a contactless checkout experience at the self-checkout kiosk.
For me, like I mentioned, the mobile scan & go benefit has been my go to for saving time. In a hurry to get home but forgot the tea lights?! No prob, I’ll run in quick to grab them and save time by using mobile scan & go to check out. Sign up for WALMART+ here!
Super sold on these affordable table coverings! I’m able to clean up the mess in one solid swooooop. Easy peasy! All about that one stop shop life, if you can’t tell. Jack was beyond eager to get these pumpkins carved + lit so he could go trick or treating!
Temperatures are dropping in my neck of the woods + Everlane swooped in with a new sweat set just in time to hibernate in all winter.
This sweat set?!?!
The color.
The fit.
The crop.
I hope this explains why the same exact one in black, is on it’s way to my front door right now? I know a gooood piece when I meet it.
Everlanehas been a favorite of mine for years + it has been such an honor to style for them! I feel confident in sharing basics with you at a fair, transparent price – because I know you’ll love them as well!
Check out another look I styled this week from Everlane New Arrivals!
When it comes to fall + winter wardrobe, I tend to lean towards more classic (sometimes) higher priced pieces.
I do this for two reasons:
1.) I typically wear fall + winter clothes more months of the year than any other season. So, I opt to invest in pieces that will last + stay in style for years to come.
2) In the winter I pile on the layers, so sticking to more classic pieces in simple cohesive color tones. This allows for you to mix-n-match new outfits from fewer pieces no matter what season it is!
As a small business owner, I adore Everlane + it’s radical transparency. You can find anything you need to see where things come from. I’ve also had the unique opportunity to interview a few candidates for my own team who have worked at Everlane + they had nothing but good things to say about the culture. This says so much about a brand + really seals the deal for me! Thank you for sponsoring this post! xx
“The amazon prime delivery trucks should play music just like the ice cream truck and watch every mom on the cut-de-sac come running.”
The fun has just begun. Amazon is quickly becoming the most simple way to shop. You’re able to shop Amazon Prime Day deals today + tomorrow. More deals will be coming + going throughout both today + tomorrow, so be sure to keep checking back on my page for updates. I’ll be sharing real time throughout the day!
Up to this point in our home build, we’ve worked with 2 incredible designers. Our architectural designer, Hyrum Bates, helped us with the layout of our house and turned our sketches into a reality. I’ll dive more into that process with a Q+A with Hyrum later on! As for many of the interior features of our house (fixtures, lighting, hardware, cabinets, flooring, etc) we worked with an interior designer, Elizabeth Hales.
We originally shied away from hiring a designer for the same reason that most hesitate, the cost. When you’re already stretching for your dream home, it’s hard to justify that added cost, ya know? But now that we’ve worked with Elizabeth for over a year, it’s hard to imagine how much we would have spent in both time and costs if we didn’t have someone like Elizabeth walking us through the process, laying out our options, and helping us source materials.
Since everyone’s needs are different, I’d definitely recommend sitting down to weigh out your own pro + con list on your own! For the rest of this post – I’m going to walk you through what’s been the most helpful for us + the things that we tried to consider when deciding for ourselves if we should hire a home designer.
THE PRO’S
A Good Designer Will Help you stay on budget. If there is one thing I can promise you, it’s that you’ll go over budget. It just happens. Having someone there to help remove the emotion + keep the budget on track will save you a fortune. A good home designer should be able to help you map out the best use of your budget and help you decide where you should splurge and where you should save. Elizabeth was good to stick to the numbers our builder had given us for each room. She was mindful of where to splurge + save. It was very helpful to be upfront right from the beginning so that everyone was aware of the expectation.
A Good Home Designer Provides Visuals Before Building: This goes back to the old saying “measure twice, cut once.” When Elizabeth suggested she’d make us drawings of every room, we thought she was waisting a lot of time (time is money). After redoing SEVERAL rooms, we see how beneficial (both for the eyes + for the wallet) it is to see the room BEFORE you build it. Duh. With our bathrooms, Elizabeth printed out designs of every room prior to approving them + changes were made prior to the build, a lot of changes. If you don’t want to rebuild things, make sure your designer designs. 😉
A Good Home Designer Sources Alternatives: This may be my biggest pro of a good designer. They’ll source multiple options for you with both aesthetics and budget in mind. Chances are, if you build a home, you’ll spend a lot of time searching Google Images and Pinterest. It won’t take long before you’re frustrated because you don’t know where a product came from, or what material is being used, or may not know what options are available. Your designer will source what you’re looking for and even provide options you didn’t know you had!
A Good Home Designer Provides a Second opinion/advocates for your decisions: to put it simply, I needed a hand holder. I’ve never built a home from scratch before. It all feels intimidating. I needed someone who would help me find the confidence with what feels like big decisions. I found myself in meetings with our builder needing some one to help “dummy the options down” a bit for me. Decision fatigue is real when building fully custom. Elizabeth helped me narrow down decisions + confidently decide on the ones I liked the best.
THE CON’S
⁃ Budget…? It’s hard to call this a con considering we’ve saved much more than we spent with Elizabeth. However, in the spirit of trying to be fair, there’s obviously a cost. I prefer to call it an investment since you should receive a return if you do it right. See my list below for things you should consider when hiring a designer.
Things to consider/ask when interviewing home designers:
What is the cost/rate? Double check for understanding here as you don’t want to find unexpected fees.
Ask them what home styles they are comfortable with.
Do you have a portfolio to showcase your work?
How often will we meet?
I’d also recommend you express up front the things that mean the most to you in your home and ask how they’ve addressed that in the past. We really wanted an open floor plan that forces us all to the center of our home to be together. Which meant smaller rooms + a drop down seated area. Elizabeth made this easier, because she had us fill out detailed questionnaires for each of the boys + the bathrooms in our home. Jon always says ⁃ You don’t know what you don’t know. She has given + presented options to us that we wouldn’t have realized were out there.
In the end, what we thought would be a big extra cost for our build has paid itself off. Hiring Elizabeth Hales has saved us thousands of dollars at this point!
Happy ROOLEE Birthday to the one I shared my room with my entire life, the one who knows all my deepest secrets, the one who I could laugh silently for hours, my little sister, ROO! my biggest cheerleader. BEANIE | TOP | MATCHING BOTTOMS | FLANNEL
I hope this set looks just as cozy online as it feels in real life. Thick knit + a bit tapered in the leg, perfect to tuck or leave as is. It’s thick enough that you won’t feel a breeze through the little holes, like you can on a few of my other sets if yaknowwhat I mean? I like the cream natural color the best. Because it’s so lightweight, it’s easy to layer with a flannel on top. Excited to layer it up for fall! These Elvis boots are making a huge come back for the second year in a row! JOB WELL DONE, ROO! Every time I wear them I get stopped + asked for the source. Definitely a statement maker, but still comfortable for all of the day’s activities!
Freezing in the morn, sweating by noon – welcome to the season of layers in Utah!
Everlane is a great place to build up the basic pieces in your closet!! The quality of their clothing helps me purchase confidently, knowing they will last seasons down the road.
I am honored to style this post with them – – – with hopes to show you how easy it is to put together an outfit for pretty much any occasion! Be sure to shoot me a message if you need help or pointers in doing so!
I have been intentionally filling my closet with simple pieces that go together for any occasion. My secret? Change out your shoes + it will immediately dress up or dress you down for any occasion! It takes both the thought out of getting dressed + leaves me able to feel confident at any occasion. I think the thing I love most about closet staples with EVERLANE is that you can mix + match dress up or down with a few simple pieces! Going to break it down for you below. Shop my recipe for being effortlessly put together below!
HOW GOOD are these boots for fall?! I gasped when I opened the box! I looove the pointed toe that squares off at the end. They will elevate even the sportiest look. You know I live to mix up my shoe game. I fight the crowd + go sporty looks with fancy shoes/tennis shoes with fancier outfits. I’d say size up a half size so that they fit comfortably with a sock or tight as the weather continues to cool!
Here is one more look with a few of my favorite Everlane pieces linked!

I looooove Summer, but when it comes to clothes I’m a Fall girl through + through. It’s been fun to have a couple days that the weather has been cooler off + our schedules are feeling a little bit more normal. All 3 boys are in school 2 days a week for the first time EVER. It feels so weird!
One of my favorite staple pieces to wear all Fall is a camel jacket. For me it’s worth the splurge because I wear it errrrday, but I know this might not be the case for you – so I added a few different pricing options. Let me know if you find one you love + if you buy it, be sure to tag me on Instagram for a chance to be reimbursed. We choose weekly winners!
PRE-K, 1St + 3RD! I barely recognize these teenagers.
After the endless summer the boys have been so excited to go back to school this past week. They’re only going in person twice a week + then home the other 3. Home school mama life is not the life I thought we’d living in 2020, but here we are . . .
making the most of it.
I know this will take more time on my end + also be memories I cherish forever (i hope). We’ll let you know at the end. But I am grateful for stores like Walmart where I can get school supplies + clothes all in one place. I couldn’t believe the basics I found for the boys! We absolutely love the Wonder Nation brand + the reinforced knees in these joggers. No more coming home with holes in their knees!
The boys are most grateful for recess + to see their friends!
I am grateful for a few quiet hours to get some work done + brave teachers!
Hope you are have a great school whether it be online or in person.
