Favorite Sunglasses + Natural Lips

I’m pretty simple when it comes to accessories. I have a few pair of sunglasses all across the price board. One of my hottest links last month were these AMAZON sunnies that were only $12. You get what you pay for because sure enough the left lense popped out last week! 🙂 Kinda okay with it though. Easy to replace at a low cost.

It was fun to help curate sunnies for GIGI PIP, if you’ve had your eye on the ACE (my most worn style that recently sold out) I sourced some very similar ones on AMAZON.

These sunglasses are most similar to the ACE + you will looooove them. I’ve worn mine almost every day this summer.

Also similar, just black!

DESIGNER:

I don’t usually attempt to justify the price on designer anything. Sunglasses, especially! The only real style I’ve had I LOST like a week later. Some how I manage to keep around the cheaper ones without even trying that hard. Anyone else like this? Buuuut if you can hang on to them, the quality + fit is usually better.

IIESTEVA Leonard Mirrored Round Sunglasses 48MM. I’ve had several of these + couldn’t tell you where a single pair is rn.

GUCCI : I’ve had a similar shape to these 52MM ROUND SUNGLASSES + loved them. That green-ish lens feels super unique to me.

JIMMY CHOO : i love the pop of orange on these sunglasses + that shape is swoon worthy.

UNDER $5

I ordered IIESTEVA knock offs from Ali Express for $1. I loved them, but they do take longer to ship + longer to find.

NATURAL LIPS

Now let’s chat lippppps. I feel naked without lipstick, but also like a neutral color for day to day.

Rock climbing in Lake Tahoe + a family gear list!

. . . first stop : BACKCOUNTRY . . .

Jon + I used to climb several times a week before we had kiddos! Actually it wasn’t until after Jonah was born that I developed a LEGITIMATE fear of heights. I didn’t even know I had this until I got to the top the first time I climbed.

As we were planning our trip to Northern California, rock climbing was high on our priority list! CITY OF ROCKS. Rigg has shown interest in climbing, so we decided to carry on our climbing gear + make it happen! Grateful for kids that encourage me to do hard things.

While planning the itinerary for the end of our South Lake Tahoe trip, we knew we wanted to take the boys climbing! We packed all of our gear in an oversized duffle bag + checked it at the airport. We found that the South Lake Tahoe Basin offers a variety of rock climbing experiences that range from mild to moderate to extreme! There were lots of great climbing spots just minutes from where we stayed in South Lake Tahoe.

We were glad we packed the hammocks, Jack + Jonah both napped in there for several hours!

CASTLE ROCK

We chose to make a day out of our adventures at Castle Rock. We found that it was good for beginners because the need for a lot of rope + gear was minimal! We hiked in (3 miles round trip) + it’s located in the area of Kingsbury Grade and Andria Drive. According to climbers who frequent the spot, the erosion at Castle Rock is so that there are a lot of handholds and footholds that make navigating up and down less strenuous than more advanced climbs. Worked great for our first climbing adventure as a family of 5!

We packed lunches in + hung out for the entire afternoon. The views were impossible to beat!

4th of July in Midway

We spent the long weekend up in Midway, but we were able to go to the Kaysville parade in our holiday outfits before. I’m digging these new traditions in our new hoooood. We’ve met some dear friends + as we start to put down our roots, I’m giddy about this transition. Which is refreshing because I was starting to second guess our relocation.

when jon changed his shirt, that was my green light to wear this dress i bought for the 4th! HAHAH! aka i didn’t feel quite as guilty once he changed 🙂

The weekend was filled with water balloons, backflip practice, otterpops, outdoor movies (video games for the boys), sleeping under the stars, bike parade that finished just in time for the storm to roll through, fireworks off of monument hill, manicures + a razor ride up to the top of the world! It was sooooo dang good.

jack is quick to make friends but never asks their name. he says i missss my friends so bad when we leave + doesn’t forget to add them to his prayer list!

Grateful for an incredible mother in law who is very intentional with her time + advice. She’s a counselor by profession + I look to her for parenting tips + tricks any chance I can.

Jon is very independent, confident + compassionate – – – I admire the way he was raised. We spent the weekend chatting motherhood, healthy food ideas + she sent me some printouts to help me communicate with the boys a bit better. Fingers crossed for success in raising confident kids + step further away from helicopter parenting. I bought this book immediately when I got in the car on the way home. Looking forward to diving in!

Anyways, overall an increddddible 4th of July with the family! I rode up to Jenna’s wedding with Bre the next day + it was the perfect top to a wonderful weekend. Hope yours was funnnn, too! xx

Imaginative Play with Wonder Makers™

When buying toy sets for my kids, I always lean towards the wood pieces. I like the clean look + how timeless they are. But sometimes without the colors + characters the kids aren’t as engaged with these toys. I LOVE that Fisher Price created a hybrid, Wonder Makers™ Design System – a modern take on wooden toys + the perfect combination of color + wood!

Wonder Makers™ kits allow for so much creativity. We chose to mix 3 sets for longer + more creative play, but if you’re looking for something more simple you can stick to creating one set at a time. I loved watching use his creativity by making a wood piece be a track, and then use the same track to become the pillar of the post office wall! The possibilities are endless.

We live in a small 2 bedroom condo right now, so we have to pick + choose which toys went to storage + came with us. We don’t have tons of storage so I tried choosing toys that kept the kids engaged longer with imaginative play vs toys that had one purpose.

The boys used their imagination not only once the Wonder Makers™ design system was built, but during the entire building process. We got the cars out, started a race – the pots, had to water them – the swing, pushed the characters a few times before connecting it to the town. I love toys that encourage this imaginative play throughout the process, keeping the boys engaged longer.

Wonder Makers toys are for preschoolers age 3+, so unfortunately Jack isn’t old enough to play with it yet. But he turns 3 next month + I know it will be his favorite toy!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here, if you missed the memo. 🙂 I keep finding myself saying to jon, since when is ______ such a big deal? His answer “It is?” Perks of him being off social media I guess. He’s the best. I get swallowed up in the pull of social media from some of these events + it feels like more pressure than fun sometimes.

But anyways, I tried hard to keep it together on stories yesterday after my trip sans kids to Nordstrom. I am feeeeeling the consumerism big time. I’ve always bought a few things at the NSALE, but has anyone else felt more + more push over the years? I hope I don’t pressure you like that + am sorry if I do. Just doing my part to Fashion land + pretending like we are sitting in the dressing room trying them on together. Trying to break down the sale so it feels less overwhelming + sending all my vibes to just buy things you love. . . not because they’re cheap or because someone else has them.

I went in to the store to shop early + found that the majority of the best pieces are online. 🙂 So learn from me, let us make shopping easier for all of us + not take our kids into the mayhem. DEAL! deodorant: once you donna karan, you don’t go back! the sale has a pack of 3 every year + i know it lasts me until the next one. just take my word for it or come smell mine.
sunglasses : you can snag designer sunglasses for almost half off. Last year I snagged a pair of Burberry round sunglasses + ray-bans.
beauty : this is a great time to stock up on beauty faves! I alternate perfumes between LIGHT BLUE, FLOWER BOMB, LE LABO. I dig the Nars mini lip colors, the gift set color choice are bomb + on SALE for because they have the right amount of pigment + Bobbi Brown Makeup + kiehls goodie bag.
activewear : this is one of my favorite categories in the #NSALE this year. I am digggging all the Nike sneakers, these wide leg sweats + biker shorts
jackets : a usual favorite from this years sale! jackets + coats tend to be super expensive. I’ve found the investment is worth the return + a category to save BIG. I bought this Madewell Jacket because it’s $60 off. i can’t wait for it to get here!
baby/kids gear : our stroller is on sale! it’s compact enough to fit on the airplane overhead compartment. we have loved the bright red + it is the most compact one we’ve owned. Brands like Nuna and Maxi Cosi are also discounted during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. These brands hardly ever go on sale!

2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview

I went through pretty every women’s item from the 2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale yesterday + it lasted well into the night – the real reason for the bags under my eyes today. I am sooooo stoked to share all my winning pieces with you (most under $50). Keep on reading to the bottom because I am sharing my top 10, sneak peaks at the end of this post!

Favorite Categories this year : Activewear/Loungewear + Jackets

The Nordstrom sale starts at 12:30 pm EST on July 12th. I will be linking allll my dressing room outfits + favorites right then.

PRO TIP : come back to the blog Friday – shop your favorites – add to cart + click purchase. You can then go back and shop the sell in detail, but at least you won’t have to worry about anything in your cart selling out.

It took almost 8 hours yesterday to shift through alll the goods of the sale. I wanted to make sure to link all the very best options, so you could shop everything on my blog, easily in less than 10 minutes. The blog post will be broken down by outfits, categories + favorites for eassssy, peassssy shopping!

Also, Nordstrom does free + easy returns so you can return anything you don’t like. If you are in between sizes, I suggest grabbing both + taking whichever one doesn’t fit back, so it doesn’t sell out in the meantime.

How to Shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I LOVE shopping at Nordstrom + loooooove the Anniversary sale. I look forward to it all year.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale happens once a year + you get discounts on NEW items – – – yepppppp, NEW! I love that Nordstrom offers all their Fall items on sale at the beginning of the season, instead of having to wait until the end.

Make sure to read to the bottom of this email to see important shopping dates + a sneak peek of the 2019 #NSALE Catalog. Here are some tips on how to best shop the sale :

GET A NORDSTROM CARD

This will get you in to EARLY ACCESS, starting July 12th. They have credit + debit options available. Plus, get a $60 NOTE rn just for signing up!

DON’T THINK ABOUT IT TOO LONG

If you have shopped the Nordstrom sale in the past you know top items go quickkkkk, like R E A L L Y quick! Luckily, Nordstrom has a killer return policy, so it’s better to buy now + return later. I usually stock up on everything I think I might like so I don’t regret not buying a sold out item.

If you’re unsure on sizes, get both and return whichever one doesn’t work —- alternative sizes may be sold out before you figure out one doesn’t fit.

SHOP ONLINE, EARLY

I like shopping online at MIDNIGHT when the sale goes live, that way I get first dibs + don’t have to worry about items selling out. I typically then head into the store the next day to see if there is anything I missed. Shop this sale as early as you can, so you don’t miss out.

HIT UP THE ACCESSORIES

Last year I got a pair of Vince shoes, Ray-Ban + Burberry sunglasses, all for almost half off! Guys, this sale really is the bees knees!

unlike last year there are NO brand restrictions this year, so take advantage of brands that don’t usually go on sale.

WORKOUT GEAR

Nordstrom always has the cutest workout + loungewear during the sale. Brands like Nike + Adidas are part of the sale.

STOCK UP ON BEAUTY

This is on category I can’t push enough. You can get ahhhhhmazing deals on beauty during the #NSALE.

These items will not usually go on sale again throughout the year, so STOCK UP – beauty items don’t tend to go bad. I like stocking up on my favorite perfume, hand soap + lipsticks + snagging bigger items like a Cleansing Brush or PMD.

THINK FALL

Even though it’s warm outside now, think fall/winter. If you stock up on down jackets, sweaters + cardigans now, you won’t have to pay full price later – – – these will be the items that Nordstrom will carry throughout the winter. Usually brands like Patagonia will have discounts + i love snagging a few basic long sleeves.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE FAMILY

Nordstrom has amazing things for kids, including gear – – – HELLLO discounted car seats + strollers. Plus, don’t forget about the man in your life, I love snagging Jon some new Nike gear!

A list of loves is something I’ve been doing since my junior year of high school, only in my journal. It looks a little different there, but I thought it would be fun to bring it back to life here + share a few of my favorite things each week. Hope you don’t mind me sharing.

My Top 6 Apps for Better Instagram Stories

I could redo a story 24029392 times before posting 🙈 changing colors, font, sizes, gifs . . . buuuuuut here our a few apps I use that make creating stories easy, peasy lemon squeeeeezy!

UNFOLD : the quickest + easiest way to collage a pair or group of images. Super clean feel! I love the 5 photo template on CS1.

CANVA : a graphic designer hack – – – pre-made templates that you just download ready to go or you can customize it how you’d like. It’s suppppper simple.

OVER : over is similar to Canva, but I like the designs slightly better. They feel a little more clean to me, so I can do less customizing + create a story quicker.

STORYLUXE : This is a current fave! They have super fun neutral templates all ready to add an image or fun ideas for an Instagram quiz to send out to your friends/followers.

VSCO : my favorite tool for quickly editing photos + videos. My favorite is A6 for video.

8 MM : this is my favorite app for making videos looks vintage. I love pairing this with with the music feature!
